Orthopaedic Surgeon and Ass. Prof. and Staff Physician Orthopaedic Clinic, University General Hospital of Padua, Italy

In the Orthopaedic Clinic where Dr Borgo works, surgical procedures are performed both in adults and children and consequently his activity is divided between these two groups of people. He personally follows all children and adults affected by metabolic diseases and performs surgical procedures when needed.

Since the end of ‘90s, Padua progressively became a national reference centre for all enzyme replacement therapies for rare diseases, in particular for Mucopolysaccharidoses.  Dr Borgo, involved from the very beginning, joined the MPS multidisciplinary paediatric team as an Orthopaedic Consultant. His clinical and surgical experience was initially limited to paediatric patients. However, when these patients grew up and become adults, they presented new orthopaedic problems and asked for new solutions. In this way, Dr Borgo’s clinical and surgical experience extended from treating children to treating both children and adults. Dr Borgo was a promoter of the foundation of the multidisciplinary metabolic team for adults in Padua Hospital and was the founder of dedicated outpatient service for rare orthopaedic diseases in Padua Hospital that are now active since 2017.

Dr Borgo intensively collaborates with the Italian MPS family association, he is part of some international working groups for MPS. He is an active member of the Italian Paediatric Orthopaedic Society and of the European Orthopaedic Society. Dr Borgo has been a member of the MPS IV and MPS VI consensus programs have been editor of the orthopaedic part of the Italian paediatric society journal, has a peer-to-peer review activity for some international journals.
